What you need to know
Will my employees like being on a CDHP? Will I save money right away, over time, or both?
A CDHP is both a short-term and a long-term strategy. Initially, you will save money through the power of deductible leveraging. Over time, savings will occur through behavior change and the more appropriate use of healthcare account dollars. Cost savings are achieved by educating employees to be healthier and to make wiser health care decisions. Most surveys show that employees are satisfied with a CDHP—choosing the right options, shopping for the right care in the right setting at the best price, and being truly in control of their expenses.
Coaches' Takeaway
Change is difficult, and most people resist it even when it’s beneficial—so don’t be surprised if CDHP acceptance happens over time. In most cases, you will save a little money up front. Over time, as consumer behavior changes, costs will decrease, and health will improve.
