Why is biometric screening for my employees’ “numbers” important?
Biometric testing consists of screening for blood pressure/hypertension, cholesterol, glucose, body mass index (BMI), and triglycerides.
While not mandatory (check plan specifics), biometric screenings have not been proven to reduce overall medical expenditures by proactively identifying risk factors and employees that will benefit from wellness coaching. There are some numbers to note when using a BMI calculator for identifying health risks. Your BMI offers a readily available number to quickly ascertain whether a person has too much body fat. Usually, BMI scores of 20 to 25 are generally considered normal, scores of 25 to 30 are considered overweight, and scores of 30 to 35 are obese. A score over 35 is considered to be extremely obese. Conversely, any scores under 20 may be considered underweight.
Coaches' Takeaway
“Knowing your numbers” (biometric screening data such as: blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose) means getting a routine physical from a family doctor to help establish a baseline of health.
