What is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s standardized comparison tool of medical plan benefits, terms, and conditions called? Do I receive one?
Known as the “Summary of Benefits and Coverage” (SBC), it allows benefits members to review and compare their current plans. You should receive an SBC from your insurance carrier and/or your employer. It is important for you to review the SBC as it provides such information as:
- What is not included in the plan’s out-of-pocket limit?
- Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
- Are there services this plan doesn’t cover?
